MEET MATHEW

A lifelong New Yorker, Mathew Shurka comes from a family of Persian Jews who fled Iran for Israel at its founding. The son of an immigrant and two NYC yellow cab drivers who had the opportunity for the American Dream, Mathew has spent his life fighting for people. After surviving a violent attack and five years of conversion therapy, he built a national movement called Born Perfect to protect young people — passing life-saving legislation in 27 states and more than 120 cities across the country. Mathew has worked with members of Congress, advised two presidential administrations, and hundreds of lawmakers across the country.

Mathew knows what it's like when the government doesn't fight for you. That's why he's running for Congress — to do what too many won't: take on corruption, confront Donald Trump's attacks on this city, and fight for the people who make New York home.

Mathew lives in Chelsea with his fiancé, and they own a small business in the district.
